Karuna S. Brunk
Karuna S. Brunk advises businesses and employees on labor and employment matters. Ms. Brunk provides thoughtful and practical strategy and solutions to a full range of labor and employment issues, including discrimination, harassment, and leave issues, retaliation claims, FLSA concerns, Title VII issues, ADA questions, and any issues related to the ADEA, the FMLA, OSHA, and the NLRA. Ms. Brunk also has experience handling unemployment claims and matters under a multitude of state and local laws. Ms. Brunk advises employers and employees on day-to-day questions and concerns, including employment agreements, employee relations issues, discipline and termination questions, severance agreements, and disability and religious accommodation concerns.
Additionally, Ms. Brunk has experience representing clients in litigation before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, and in state and federal courts.
Ms. Brunk regularly prepares and provides advice and counsel to employers on their policies and procedures and employee handbooks. She is also available to serve as an independent investigator in employee relations investigations and to provide trainings to management on issues such as ADA compliance, sexual harassment, discrimination, and on other work place concerns. Ms. Brunk also has experience leading traditional labor union negotiations.
Ms. Brunk joined DiMonte & Lizak in 2019. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree magna cum laude in Economics and International Relations in 2005 from Mount Holyoke College. She received her law degree from George Mason University in 2010, where she was selected as Articles Editor for the Journal of Law, Economics & Policy. Ms. Brunk is licensed to practice law in Illinois and has also practiced in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Brunk teaches business law, employment law, negotiation strategy, and economics at North Park University. She also serves as the President of the Mount Holyoke College Alumnae Club of Chicago.
