Patrick D. Owens
Patrick D. Owens joined DiMonte & Lizak, LLC as a partner in 2011. Patrick received his pre-legal education at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, where he was awarded his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting in 1993. In addition, he received his legal education at DePaul University, College of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1996. In May of 2002, he received his LL.M. in Taxation (Masters Degree in Tax Law) with honors from The John Marshall Law School. Patrick is a member of the American Bar Association, Real Property Probate and Trust Section and Section on Taxation, Illinois State Bar Association, the Northwest Suburban Estate Planning Council and the Northwest Suburban Bar Association. He also currently sits on the Board of Directors, Audit and the Trust and Investment Review Committee at ATG Trust Company.
Patrick focuses his practice on representing individuals and corporations in estate and tax planning, trust and estate administration, probate and real estate matters. He is also a frequent speaker on various trust, estate and tax matters through the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the Illinois State Bar Association and other organizations.
Patrick’s substantial experience includes working with numerous estates ranging from smaller nontaxable estates to very large taxable estates. He has been involved in the administration and supervision of these probate and non-probate estates, including all income, gift and estate tax returns. The practical experience Patrick gained from the estate administration side also aides in the estate planning area of the practice, including drafting special needs trusts, wills and complex estate planning and asset protection planning. He has also represents buyers and sellers in both residential and commercial real estate purchases and sales. Patrick drafts corporate and limited liability formation documents and assists in joint venture agreements. He represents many new and existing business ventures, helping in their formation, structuring, business, tax planning and buy-outs. Finally, Patrick also represents individuals and companies in tax compliance before the Internal Revenue Service and Illinois Department of Revenue. Prior to joining DiMonte & Lizak, LLC, Patrick practiced law with his father, Denis, and his uncle, Jack, in the firm of Owens, Owens & Rinn, Ltd.
